Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
